Feature of the Week
Week 1 - Laura's Table
This pages inaugral post will be a special one! Designing and making tables ourselves was the first step we took on this furniture themed journey. That very first project, over a year ago now, revealed hidden talents in many of us here at Just Living and inspired all of us to see what else we could create. We are now proud to showcase a bespoke range of indoor furnishings but love it when the opportunity arises to create another table!
As many of you will know, food is a huge part of Turkish culture. Knowledge, experience and identity all distillate into one dish or meal and are shared amongst lovers, friends, family and even strangers. Food is a way of experiencing something new and bringing different people together; this incredibly simple yet complex interplay all takes place over a table.
For so many of us this simple piece of furniture is often the heart of the home, where laughs, conversations and news, be it good or bad, is shared. With that in mind, we put a lot of effort into our tables to reflect the great significance they play in our everday lives.
On that note we would like to introduce our feature of the week - Laura's Table.
Laura is an old family friend and has a beautiful home in Kalkan. She came to us fed up of hosting barbaques and meals for larger groups where people would have to be sat at different tables and conversations were often disjointed. Laura wanted a table for her terrace that her family and friends could sit around and converse properly on.
This eye catching piece is made of solid cedar and is by far the biggest table project we have undertaken to date! It seats 10 - 12 people and comes with matching cedar chairs (for 12 people) designed to last as long as the table. We treated the table top with a light varnish to ensure that the surface is protected against all the associated mishaps of a family BBQ, but not so much to take away the beautiful natural colours of the wood.
All the hard work and hours put in by the team were worth it to see the smile on Laura's face when she first saw the finished thing. Obviously this one is going to a happy home but you can pick up a very similar one for around 6,000TL (with 12 chairs). If you fancy something different we can make one to your exact specifications with many possible materials and unlimited choice when it comes to style and size.
